  1. The expo marker is blue in color. It is long and cylindrical in shape, except for the top. It is an awkward shape. The outside color variation is blue and white. It has different kinds of font. When I smell, I think of industrial cleaners. It isn’t like those markers that had scents of different fruits and etc. No, these smell disgusting. With a sniff, my nostrils burn, but it makes me think of school. We used to do relay races at school. We had to pass the marker from one person to the next after we solved a mathematical problem or even a literary question. I loved playing those games, but the smell will never leave me. I can smell the expo marker before it is even uncapped. As for sound, it doesn’t have its own voice, but I can hear the cadence of its bounce when dropped: “ding…din..din..ding.” Moreover, the sound I am most familiar with is the steady, speedy roll when lays flat on a surface that is uneven. I can hear it picking up speed, and my intuition makes me want to jump after it like I’m part of the cast of Mission Impossible. It sounds like this: “drrrrrrrrrrr..drrrrrrrr.” If I don’t catch it, I finally hear the ding..din…din…ding from the floor, which makes me sigh because now I have to pick it up. It’s okay. I’m not that lazy, but I would like to think I have ninja skills that will allow me to catch it in time. When I do pick it up, I feel the soft plastic between my fingers. It is easy to hold like that of a massive pen. If my hands were smaller, it could be difficult to hold because of its width in diameter; it is much bigger than a pen. When I go to write something on the board, I have to feel the hard, pointy cap. There are ridges on it, which is the preferable design for gripping the cap. When I pull the cap off, I hear a loud “PLUCK!” I don’t want to lose the cap, so I snap it into the bottom of the expo marker. I can hear a small suction sound as it snaps into place. When I write on the board, the smell makes me taste metal in my mouth. I wouldn’t dare try to eat the expo marker, but the smell prompts memories of other smells and tastes. I have had to put the marker in my mouth before so that I could multi-task by pulling out papers and flipping through chapters. The plastic doesn’t have a taste, but it feels soft on my tongue and hard between my teeth. My teeth would shatter if I were to try to eat it.

  2. Today, we watched a video in class from the series How I Met Your Mother. The TV show is very popular, especially among young adults. It has a cast of actors that have appeared in various comedic roles on the silver screen. The television characters are very predictable in this episode. Every three years, the men of the cast get together to watch the Star Wars trilogy, and then they discuss their futures. Marshall, Ted, and Barney do not offer any true variation to their goals, which could be seen as predictable and boring to most viewers. Also, the show has several sexual innuendos throughout the episode. If a family were to watch this episode, the parents would probably not want their children, sixteen and younger, to watch it with them. Of course, there are funny parts to this series. For example, each funny situation that occurs within the film has a hint of reality and truth. Couples do break up and get back together again, and we all grow throughout the year and years. However, some truths remain constant, especially that of the situation between Barney and his girlfriend. Both of them refuse to pass gas in front of each other, so they find alternate locations, which creates a comedic thread in the series. I know several couples who understand the seriousness of a relationship when it hits that point. Therefore, the presence of the scene lends credibility to the script. I wish the script had more variance throughout it, though. Each goal was the same, and the one variable was the unknown "douche bag." Half way through the film, I could predict what each character from his or her life, but I guess the silver lining came at the end when Barney had his epiphany moment. The comedic relief also stimulated from the neighbors, which I find pretty plausible. Some neighbors are pretty nosy.

  3. The hall was silent until she heard a slight creak from the doorway behind her. She turned, suddenly, to see who was there, but the doorway was empty. She saw that the door wasn't even cracked open. Penelope decided to walk further down the long, dark hallway to see if the creak from there. As she took a few more steps, she heard, "BAM!" It sounded as if a cement truck had hit the concrete wall, but there was no evidence to corroborate that claim. As her mind reeled, Penelope became sickened, stomach twisting and turning, aching for release. Chills ran up her arms and down to her toes; her hair was matted with beads of sweat, no fear. "Okay, you've got to get it together, Penelope," she said to herself. "It's just an old house that was left by my creepy Aunt Mildred." The house was a two story brick building with mahogony interior. The halls were dark and dank; the house felt like it belonged to 17th century England, but it didn't. No, the house belonged in the middle of a field in South Carolina. Aunt Mildred's family came from old money, old plantation money. Penelope enjoyed coming to this house, mainly because the old servants quarters were still attached. In fact, Aunt Mildred had servants until she died. They left when she passed. When Penelope had first come to collect the house, she remembered when Miss Button was packing up her things. "Penelope, child, you must give dis property away," she insisted. "Child, this here isn't for no God-fearing inhabitant...no, it's for the devil's spawn. So, you best just leave with me." Miss Button had begun to pull on Penelope's arm, and Penelope only stood there like a statue, mouth agaped in disbelief of this old superstitious woman. Penelope was brought back to life as a door creaked open at the end of the hallway, allowing a ray of yellow light.
